PVSC 2025: Progress in Back Contact Passivation for ACIGS

Conference Spotlight: Ga-Graded Back Contact Passivation for Bifacial ACIGS Cells

At the 2025 IEEE 53rd Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (PVSC), Montreal, Canada, Hi‑BITS partners presented advances in back contact passivation strategies for bifacial Ag-alloyed CIGS (ACIGS) devices. The work explores the use of gallium (Ga) grading to optimise rear interfaces in narrow bandgap absorbers — a challenge for high-efficiency tandem and semi-transparent devices.

The conference proceeding outlines early experimental outcomes and strategic integration methods. This research directly feeds into WP2’s goal of reducing recombination and enhancing bifaciality through advanced contact engineering.
